We work in collaboration with our people and partners to have a positive effect on society and the planet. Our social value framework is aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and progress is monitored in accordance with the National TOMs framework.
Sustainability
We have formally pledged our commitment to being carbon neutral by 2030 and reducing our carbon emissions to net zero by 2040. We are part of the Business Ambition for 1.5°C and Race to Zero campaigns, in addition to our committed to SBTi and UN Global Compact.
Health & safety
In 2020, we carried out more than 760 audits, measuring HSE compliance and ensuring our high safety standards are being met. Our HSE values are communicated at every level of the business and every single City colleague is responsible for pursuing health and safety excellence.
People
We develop and engage our people by promoting skills and employment opportunities. Our Pathways leadership programme is open to all colleagues, in all locations and disciplines. Over 200 people have completed a Pathways programme at City and 70% of graduates have progressed into a leadership role.
Procurement
Our procurement strategy reduces inequality and supports the growth and development of local supply chains and communities. More than 50% of our UK spend is with SMEs, well above the 33% government target.
Community & giving
It's in our DNA to support those in need within our local communities and we have a strong history of giving back. We're dedicated to creating better opportunities and helpful networks for the people around us. Through our social value programme, OneCity Taking Action Together, we regularly support a range of local charities, clubs and causes.
