City has trained staff using a dedicated training centre for more than 15 years. We launched our purpose-built 12,000sqft training centre in 2019 to meet the skills demand from our partners and support our growing business. With its bespoke workshops and training zones, the design of the centre provides the flexibility to deliver training across multiple groups at any time.
Haydock training centre has full accreditation to deliver City & Guilds qualifications, and our technicians are trained to the highest standards in the industry. Ideally located off the M6 and close to major travel hubs, colleagues from across the UK receive training at the facility.
Every City technician completes structured and role-specific induction, training and refresher training programmes. The comprehensive technical training and qualifications equip our engineers to deliver services on a complex and diverse set of assets.
We continue to improve our training provision and the ways we deliver. Responding to the global pandemic, we provide training using remote classrooms and adapt practical face-to-face training to keep our colleagues safe.
Tailored workshops provide exclusive training on customer-specific assets in a safe environment. The workshops are equipped with the asset types and exact models of equipment found in our customers' buildings. These assets include microwaves, Zip taps, a range of oven types, dishwashers, pizza ovens, and even popcorn and ice-cream machines.
From parts and set-up, programming, common faults, performing PPM tasks and troubleshooting, City's engineers become asset experts. Updated technical manuals, designed in-house, support colleagues in their day-to-day roles, and the training team offer remote field support to help with troubleshooting and complex problem resolution.
A range of training areas are covered at the centre, including electrical certification and testing, safe isolation and lock off, and catering and bakery asset training for over 20 manufacturers. Our health and safety practical training includes abrasive wheels, electrical awareness, roof access training, ladder safety, fire panels, fire door repair, and maintenance.
We deliver 18th Edition training to qualified electrical technicians using our dedicated City & Guilds classroom, which achieves exceptional pass rates. This keeps our colleagues compliant and working safely, while significantly reducing cost against external training.
City's technical training team are extensively qualified and highly skilled engineers. All our City & Guilds accredited tutors and assessors complete annual accreditation assessments with City & Guilds, and undertake regular upskilling and manufacturer training.
Managed by the technical training team, a bespoke Learning Management System gives colleagues easy access to reference guides, how-to videos, mock exams and eLearning modules. The content is regularly updated, as the training team oversee the quality of training modules delivered across all platforms, whether via classroom, remotely or digitally.
Every member of the training team attends regular site visits to review how technicians are utilising the training, and identify opportunities to improve programmes.
